This specification covers seamless austenitic steel pipe intended for high-temperature central-station service. The grades covered are five H grades and two nitrogen grades. Pipe may be either hot finished or cold finished, with a suitable finishing treatment. All pipes shall be furnished in the heat-treated condition unless the order specifically states that no final heat treatment shall be applied. Tensile tests, hydrostatic test, nondestructive electric tests, ultrasonic tests, eddy-current tests, tension tests, and flattening tests shall be made to conform to the requirements specified.
Scope
1. This specification covers seamless austenitic steel pipe intended for high-temperature central-station service. Among the grades covered are H grades and nitrogen grades that are specifically intended for high-temperature service.
2. Optional supplementary requirements (S1 through S10) are provided.
3. Grades TP321 and TP321H have lower strength requirements for nominal wall thicknesses greater than 3/8 in. [9.5 mm].
4. The dimensionless designators NPS (nominal pipe size) and DN (Diametre Nominel) have been substituted in this standard for such traditional terms as “nominal diameter,” “size,” and “nominal size.”

305 Stainless Steel is an austenitic chromium nickel stainless steel with a low rate of work hardening. This low rate of work hardening makes it suitable for many deep drawing applications. In order to minimize earring during drawing, the directionality introduced during cold rolling must be kept to a minimum amount.
Type 305 is non magentic and becomes magnetic ( at a slow rate) with increasing cold work.

Grade 305 stainless steel can be machined through slow speeds and heavy feeds.
Grade 305 stainless steel can be welded using most of the resistance and fusion methods. Oxyacetylene welding is not preferred for this steel.
Hot working of grade 305 stainless steel can be done at 1149 to 1260°C (2100 to 2300°F). This process is followed by rapid cooling to obtain maximum corrosion resistance.
Grade 305 stainless steel can be drawn, spun, headed and blanked due to its low work hardening rate.
Grade 305 stainless steel can be annealed at temperature ranging from 1010 to 1121°C (1850 to 2050°F) followed by rapid cooling.
Grade 305 stainless steel is unresponsive to heat treatment. The hardness and strength of the steel can be increased through cold working.
